Your secret telegram No.400. (55)

Indian Police.

There are two

aspects of this matter--

(ધ) Return of former members of the Indian contingent now on leave in India, who have certain expectations of further service with this Government and prospect of (?pension omitted), and

(b) Recruitment of officers for Hong Kong Police.

I note that the Government of India cannot agree to recruitment of new members, but assume this does not exclude the return of old members of the Force. Grateful for early confirmation that this assumption is correct, as it will be necessary to send officers to India to arrange early return of all former members, whether Sikh or Moslem, who are:-

a 1) Medically fit

Not known to be bad characters

c) Not due to retire on grounds of age (d) willing to return.

If assumption is not correct, I suggest that the government of India's attention should be invited to the rights of old

membere of. the Force to further service and eventual pension which will be (?prejudiced).
